Mission & Vision

Friends of Dugas Community Park is committed to preserving and protecting Dugas Community Park and Dumont Hill Park while providing educational and recreational opportunities for the region. In partnership with Western Kentucky University and the College Heights Foundation, the park will work with learners ranging from pre-k to adults to provide varied and meaningful learning experiences. When completed, the park will encompass roughly 320 acres and offer numerous amenities to the public including walking/hiking trails, amphitheater, farmers market, tree house village, horseback riding trails and stable, mountain biking trails, and zip lining. These experiences will be intertwined with Civil War heritage, natural conservancy, health and wellness, as well as agricultural uses to become a one-of-a-kind rural heritage park.

Dugas Family

Dugas Community Park is named for the Dugas family, headed by Laura Jo and Wayne Dugas.  Laura Jo is a Scottsville native and the daughter of the late Cal Turner, Sr., the founder of Dollar General Stores. Wayne is a native of Des Allemands, Louisiana. The couple lived in the residence which serves as the office for the Friends of Dugas Community Park from 1963 to 1990.  Here they raised their sons, Foster, Steve and Bruce. Through the family’s generous donation of over 240 acres, and the formation of an operating endowment, it is the family’s hope and dream that this Park will be a treasure for the citizens of Scottsville and Allen County for generations to come.
